The site you are reading is a folder
This page was not rendered when you asked for it. It was rendered when somebody merged a commit, written to a file, and copied into a bucket. There is no server here to be slow, to fall over, or to be patched at midnight — the thing answering you is a CDN handing back bytes it already had.
What that bought
Nothing to keep alive. This site has been a Next.js application in the cluster: a deployment, a rollout, a readiness probe, a share of a node's CPU, and a page that could 500. The build described here is an object store behind a load balancer, and it takes over the apex once it has been checked against reality on its preview host.
Pages that cannot lie about the product. The API reference is generated from the same OpenAPI document the gateway serves, so an endpoint that exists is documented and one that was removed stops being documented in the same commit. The webhook event list comes from the dispatcher's own catalogue. Nobody has to remember to update either.
A build that refuses bad content. A link to a page that does not exist, a heading that is not real Markdown, raw HTML smuggled into a page, two pages claiming the same place in the sidebar — each of those fails the build and names the file and the line. The alternative is finding out from a reader.
What it cost
One thing, and it is worth naming: nothing on this site can be personal. There is no request to read a cookie, no session to inspect, no place to run a query. Every reader gets the same bytes. Anything that has to know who you are lives in the console, on its own origin, behind a sign-in.
That trade is right for a site whose job is to explain a product. It would be wrong for the console, which is why the console is not built this way.
The one script
Two, actually, and both are optional. Search fetches its index when you focus the field. The Try it button on the API reference downloads a WebAssembly widget when you press it — and not before, so reading the reference costs you nothing.
Everything else is HTML and CSS that arrived already finished.
